Which way will Rss3 go in the future?#
--This is the ultimate question that has been lingering in the minds of the Rss3 team programmers.
To answer this question, I think we should mainly focus on the following three aspects:
-
How did Rss3 get to where it is now?
(What the hell have we been through?) -
What is the current environment of Rss3?
(What the hell is happening now?) -
What is the future direction of Rss3?
(What the hell should we do in the future to have both a moat and long-termism?)
Alright, let's take a look:
First step, how did Rss3 get to where it is now?
Through the chat with the Rss3 whitepaper (the Rss3 whitepaper was released in December 2021), we learned:
RSS3 is the next-generation information subscription standard designed to support efficient and decentralized information distribution.
From the whitepaper, it can be seen that at the beginning, the ambition of the Rss3 project was not big. It just wanted to become the "next-generation information subscription standard." It can be understood as @diygod, the creator of rsshub, wanting to upgrade the RSS business in the web3 trend. The goal of "supporting efficient and decentralized information distribution" was just to improve information distribution.
Later, after exploring projects like revery (a social demo of the rss3 protocol) and cheers (a web3 personal business card using the rss3 protocol), it seemed like there was some hesitation.
I understand that the team may have encountered self-doubt in terms of direction and positioning, which is common for web3 projects, in the face of a bearish market, low coin prices, and a lack of users.
But everything is fine. Shuaizong (the founder of Rss3) is still strong, and diygod still enjoys coding. Everything is quietly accumulating.
Second step, what is the current environment of Rss3?
It is now March 5, 2023. Bitcoin and Ethereum have been experiencing continuous declines after a bottom bounce. Binance is still in a wild fight with its old friends from Ftx. Vitalik Buterin is still promoting his PoS and L2 solutions. Lens, Farcaster, and CyberConnect are still worried about the performance of the public chains they are built on.
The market, after experiencing the Hong Kong wind, VR, AI, and the frenzy of L2 operations, is now in a state of hesitation and observation.
So, what is Rss3 doing in this environment? According to the Rss3 official blog's review of 2022 on January 15, 2022:
In the past four months, progress and development have been made, including improving network scalability and security, supporting DeFi protocols, community activities, etc. They have also collaborated with other companies, released beginner's guides, participated in forums and hackathons, and updated applications. Finally, they celebrated surpassing 50,000 followers on their Twitter account.
It seems like they have been building and working hard, but haven't done much. However, looking at a series of data from the Rss3 official website, it seems like they have done a lot.
In summary, the project has achieved the goals of Stage 2, as can be seen from the personal blog of Joshua, the founder of Rss3:
In 2022, RSS3 achieved many milestones in the Web3 and cryptocurrency fields, becoming the de facto number one Web3 social data provider. They will continue to focus on acquiring substantial developers and users and seek more talents to share their vision of an open network. When there is a conflict between serving users and serving the Open Web, they will prioritize the latter. The RSS3 Foundation plans to launch the world's first open network search engine and upgrade cross-network scanning in 2023 to further develop and grow.
Here, it is worth highlighting that:
The RSS3 Network received over 1.4 billion requests, with monthly requests surpassing 400 million in December – a 20,000% increase from December of the previous year. As a result, RSS3 has become the de facto number one Web3 social data provider.
Because of these impressive network usage data, Binance Research paid special attention to Rss3 and another social project of the team, Crossbell. They included them in their research report titled "Web3 Social: The Road to Mass Adoption" published in December 2022.
So far, I believe the second step of the question has been answered. It can be said that in 2022, Rss3 has gained industry recognition and established its position as a leading web3 infrastructure provider.
Third step, what is the future direction of Rss3?
At this point, I have reached the end of my response, but I haven't figured it out yet (for the sake of suspense). I can only continue in the next part. However, I can give a hint with three images:
